Reopening
Plan
Why are we adopting a hybrid model?
This model was chosen for several reasons related to health and safety for our students and staff. In a hybrid model, we reduce the number of students in the building, in each classroom and, generally, on each bus. This increases social distancing, increases opportunities for mask breaks and water breaks, increases space in hallways and on the playground.
We believe it is important to utilize mitigation strategies such as distance, cleaning and masks to reduce the risk of illness in our buildings as much as possible.
Hybrid Instructional Model
East Windsor will open school with a hybrid instructional model. Students across the district will attend school in person two days per week with three days online.
Student Grouping and Learning Cohorts
Students will be grouped alphabetically, and consideration will be given to families with multiple students in the district to accomodate as much as possible for child care scheduling.
Laptops & Technology
EWPS has made it a priority for students to have laptops to successfully learn in the hybrid and remote learning environments. To learn how to your student can get a laptop for use during the school year, click the link below.
Masks are Required
All staff and students are required to wear face coverings in school buses and in school buildings — except for specific exemptions.
Temporary Opt Out
The Department of Education is allowing families to opt out of in school attendance temporarily. Should SDE change this decision, students would be expected to return to in person classes.
Hand Washing and Sanitizing is Critical
Staff and students will be required to wash their hands multiple times a day and will use supplied hand sanitizer when situations do not allow for hand-washing.
Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning
Face coverings, distance, cleaning, use of cohorts and ventilation all work together to help mitigate illness. EWPS is maximizing the efficiency of our HVAC system and it is being serviced with any repairs completed by the start of school.
Cleaning Our Schools
Our custodial staff has a cleaning and disinfecting schedule for all buildings which will be followed daily. We are hiring extra staff to ensure high touch areas including doorknobs and bathrooms are cleaned and disinfected at least twice daily or more!
Medical Needs
The medical needs of our staff and students will be our first priority. The state Department of Public Health is working on the guidelines for schools related to quarantine, class or school closures, and EWPS will follow these guidelines accordingly.
Athletics and Extra-Curriculars
EWPS is having on going discussions regarding sports, spectators, and extra-curricular activities. The CIAC has provided guidelines for a fall sports season, and the athletic committee has met to review them and discuss the impact on EW athletes.
COVID-19 Testing
The School Based Health Center (SBHC) will be offering COVID-19 testing for students who have COVID-19 symptoms. Learn more about the test and how students will be able to access this service.
